ABOUT
MY STORY
I have always loved beauty. At the age of six, you could find me digging through my aunt's makeup collection and putting on foundation four shades too light. I graduated from the San Francisco Institute of Esthetics and Cosmetology back in 2014. Not soon after, I mentored under one of the Bay Area’s finest brow artists, working with her at a five star salon in San Francisco. Shortly thereafter, I worked along side her to build the Bay Area’s biggest brow empire in North Berkeley, and am now ready to bring that bangin’ brow expertise to Sacramento.
Certified in Thuya NYC Brow Laminations and Elleebana Lash Lifts, I take great pride in continuing education, and sharing my education with other artists. I always aim for perfect lines and brows that look more like twins than unrelated sisters, and am the most dedicated to helping you achieve your best brow.
Not only am I a seasoned brow artist, but a practicing martial artist of 21 years with a first degree black belt in Kajukenbo—a hybrid martial art based in Hawaii. The name “The Brow Sensei” is an homage to my first love—martial arts.
The name “Not Your Brow Studio” is a play on my own name, which often gets mispronounced as different variations of “Melissa”. Whenever I meet someone, I always say, “Hi, my name is Mylissa. Not YOUR lisa, MY-lisa.” So while it may sound exclusive at first, I am so proud to share my studio and my work with you all.
“Meticulous, highly trained/educated and passionate about her craft, Mylissa is The Brow Sensei for real. I’ve been a client of hers for years and will never go to anyone else. Whenever I meet someone for the first time, they always comment on how amazing my brows are and I have Mylissa to thank for that.”
